Bujumbura (Rwibaga Commune), October 9, 2025 – In a significant step forward for Burundi's mining sector, the President of the Republic, H.E. Major General Évariste Ndayishimiye, inaugurated the Rurambira site. This event marked the official start of operations for BAKAGEM Mining Burundi, which is preparing to exploit the rare earth deposit located on Rurambira Hill.
This initiative represents an important step for Burundi's economic development, offering new job opportunities and attracting investment to the mining sector. Rare earths, essential for many modern technologies, could position Burundi as a key player in the international market.
President Ndayishimiye emphasized the importance of the responsible and sustainable exploitation of mineral resources, ensuring that the benefits primarily accrue to local communities.
